Adam Sullivan, LMHC

I am a person-centered therapist who sees adult individual clients in person. My approach integrates a number of perspectives, including the connection of mind, body, and emotions, and empathy-based communication. As an example, I use motivational interviewing, positive psychology, non-violent communication, and mindfulness to help clients make deeper contact with feelings, identify needs, and find expression. This can help to alleviate anxiety or depression in some people, towards increased connection and satisfaction. Treated conditions include anxiety, depression, grief, stress, trauma, focus, hypomania, guilt, shame, emotional regulation, and interpersonal communication. I am fascinated with multicultural perspectives.

Let’s work together to build a holistic approach for you based on your needs and goals.

Professional experience

I have worked and trained in the mental health field since 2006, first as a residential counselor for people diagnosed with schizophrenia, then on the acute ward of two psychiatric hospitals, helping folks recover from episodes of mania, depression, anxiety, psychosis, and addiction. I have three years of experience working in community mental health.

I earned my undergraduate degree in English from Cornell University and my Master’s Degree in clinical mental health counseling from Antioch University New England. I lived and worked in Asia from 1992 to 2005, teaching English in Taiwan and Japan and then working as the greater China marketing specialist for Microsoft Corporation. I wrote a book for learning English, started a language school in Taiwan, and speak Mandarin Chinese.
